Fangotherapy Defintion

1 – Definition:

In practice SPA, fangotherapy covers practices that appeal to different types of “mud baths” and “mud body wrap” :

  • Silty clay sediments matured in the presence of microorganisms (unicellular algae)
  • Sludge extemporaneous preparation, the mixing of a clay substrate (kaolinite, montmorillonite, smectite), exclusively mineral, with mineral water.
  • Moor create form Peat Muds

2 – Tecnhique:

Application on one or more locations, the mud between 45 and 50 ° C depending on the location and the tolerance of the subject, for 15 minutes (beyond this period, the heat loss reduces the potential for treatment).

3 – Mechanism of Action:

Intense superficial vasodilation (sweating) and deep (decrease in blood pressure). Sedative and analgesic due to heat. Some authors suggest the possible action resulting from transcutaneous transfer of mineral elements.

4 – Indications:

  • Osteoarthritis hyperalgesic in all its locations, outside of inflammatory attacks
  • Suites of osteo-articular
  • Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (abdominal application)

5 – Contraindications:

It is inappropriate to apply against a hot mud on skin lesions, varicose veins, or to practice a wide application (spine, for example) in the event of cardiac or respiratory failure.
